I don't think the problem is the profit-motive. Non-profit journalism like NPR and PBS aren't that different from left-leaning profit-oriented orgs.
I think the problem is that kids who get into journalism all think one way, and it's the same way that young engineers think, which is why the politics in media outlets is very similar to the politics in tech companies.
Also worth noting that what the media is selling isn't actually very profitable. There's only so many 'X is racist' articles that people want to read. Many of these media orgs are just left-activist NGOs.
Amazon doesn't own WaPo, Bezos does, and I think WaPo is truly independent.
